Class of 1983

I was honored and humbled by the phone call I received a couple months ago from OHS Alumni Association President Andrew Capra letting me know that I had been chosen as the OHS 2023 Alumni of the Year. I remembered one of the first events for the OHS Alumni held down at the 6th Ward Booster field. My then boss Bruno Scavo had me grab a couple kegs that we donated to the very first event at the 6th Ward booster field following an OHS football game. It was attended by about 75 people but the idea for an annual event was off and running. I have been involved with Oneonta High since my days of running around the old Academy Street School in the early 70s where my father Floyd Allen taught 7th grade. Not venturing far from home after graduating from OHS in 1983, I attended SUNY Oneonta, SUNY Delhi, and The University of South Florida before returning to graduate from SUNY Oneonta in 1987. I had the great opportunity to work for the then-Lamonica Beverages (now Northern Eagle Beverages, Inc.), starting in 1988 and am still there 36 years later. Being a local business that was involved in many local charities and not for profits, it was a natural fit that the Oneonta High Alumni Association and Alumni weekend would be one of our favorites of the year. OHS has always been an important part of my life.  Starting at Valleyview Elementary and thru the Oneonta Senior High I have such great memories and friendships that have lasted to this day. I look forward to seeing everyone on Alumni Weekend this year.

Cheers!

George Allen, President
