Visit OHS Military Veterans Legacy Project

What began with Gene Schmidt USMC (OHS ’65) who spearheaded a project a few years ago to have a monument erected in Neawah Park which stands today for classmates lost in Vietnam another way to honor all OHS alumni military veterans was undertaken.

In 2014 a new project was started by CW Fox, Col USAF (Ret.) OHS ’69 and Barry Townsend, CPO USN (Ret.) OHS ’66 along with a small group of OHS alumni (both veterans and non veterans). Additionally, with the support of then OHS Principal Tom Brindley, and three students- Aaron Fisher, Angela Brindley and Kaitlin Shaver (now all OHS alumni) to honor Oneonta High School Veterans, they developed what was our initial webpage and contents.

To date we have now identified over 1000+ OHS alumni who have served in the armed forces. We still need your help in identifying OHS veterans who wish to be listed on the site along with any information you can add regarding the current OHS alumni names that still have some basic military or class details missing.

You can also contact Barry Townsend at to have names, etc. added, or any questions that you may have. We are looking for volunteers to assist in the ongoing effort to continue this project.
