Class of 1965
Geoff’s family moved Oneonta from Babylon on Long Island in 1955. His dad, Ian, was from Rockhampton, Australia, and his mother, Dorothy (who was a twin), was from Redding PA.
Geoff and his siblings, Pat, Sandi, Nancy, and Brian are all graduates OHS. His son, Chad, and daughter-in-law Corinne Bresee, are also graduates of Oneonta.
His dad established Medical Coaches in 1949 manufacturing specialized mobile systems for partners and customers around the globe. In May 1952, Ian Smith created Medical Coaches Inc. in Oneonta. From the start Medical Coaches has been a family affair. Geoff became company president in 1976. Today, Medical Coaches is under the direction of third generation, Chad Smith.
One of Geoff’s fond memories is of a time when Mr. Belden, who lived near his family, stopped by when Geoff was mowing the grass and asked if he would like to see the new OHS building design. They walked together to the plot where Mr. Belding brought string, stakes and measuring tape for our “OHS Building.” Geoff even helped with hauling bricks to build the new high school as it was being built.
Geoff was proud to serve as the president of the Class of 1965. Their class is a very tight-knit group.
Geoff was one of the five founders of the Oneonta High School Alumni Association. He was very proud of the accomplishments made in the 20 years since the inception of the organization.
He is a proud member of the OHS Alumni Association and appreciates being acknowledged as the 2019 Alumni of the Year.
